Set up, and fix what's stuck.
The app walks you through setup on first launch. Here is the same thing written down, plus answers to the questions people email about.
- 01Install and allow location. Install GentleSquid from Google Play and allow location access so the map can center on you.
- 02Turn on Developer Options. Open Settings, then About phone, and tap Build number seven times. Android confirms that Developer Options are on.
- 03Pick GentleSquid as the mock location app. In Settings, System, Developer options, tap Select mock location app and choose GentleSquid. The app walks you through this on first launch.

The app says it isn't selected as the mock location app+
Open Settings, System, Developer options, Select mock location app and choose GentleSquid. On some phones Developer options is under Settings, Additional settings. If you can’t find it, search Settings for “mock location”.
I can't find Build number+
It is usually under Settings, About phone, Software information. Tap it seven times; you may need to enter your PIN. Android shows “You are now a developer” when it works.
An app still shows my real location+
Close the other app fully and reopen it after starting mocking. Some apps cache the last location for a while. Make sure mocking is active (the notification shows it) before opening the other app.
An app refuses to work while mocking+
Some apps, such as banking apps and many games, detect mock locations on purpose. That is their choice, and GentleSquid doesn't try to hide from them. Stop mocking while you use those apps.
Mocking stops when I leave the app+
Allow notifications for GentleSquid, and set its battery usage to Unrestricted (Settings, Apps, GentleSquid, Battery). Some phone makers stop background services aggressively.
Search or road snapping doesn't return results+
Both need an internet connection, because they use Mapbox. Check your connection and try again.
How do I turn it off completely?+
Tap Stop mocking in the app or the notification. To remove it fully, set Select mock location app back to “No app”, or turn Developer options off.
